One of the biggest factors in construction dumpster pricing is weight. Understanding material weights helps you choose the right dumpster size and minimize overweight fees.
Here are some average weights per cubic yard, compiled from national landfill statistics. You can view more on our material weights page:
Tip: Dense materials like concrete, brick, or dirt often require a Heavy Can to help minimize total disposal costs. Call us if you’re unsure which size is right — we’ll help you avoid extra fees.
Not sure how much debris your project will generate in cubic yards? Here's a quick way to estimate:
Measure the length, width, and height of your debris pile in feet, then multiply: Length × Width × Height ÷ 27 = cubic yards.
For example: A pile that's 9 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 3 feet tall = (9 × 6 × 3) ÷ 27 = 6 cubic yards.
For more detailed calculations and examples, visit our How to Calculate Cubic Yards page.
When your project involves heavy debris — like concrete, brick, dirt, or roofing shingles — a standard dumpster can hit weight limits fast. That’s why we offer a Heavy Can option in many areas.
A Heavy Can is a smaller dumpster (usually 10, 12, or 15 yards — 8 yards in Las Vegas) with a higher included weight limit. It’s the best solution for dense construction materials and helps keep your total disposal costs as low as possible.

Construction dumpster rental prices typically range from $450 to $850, depending on the size, location, and type of debris. Heavy materials such as concrete, brick, or roofing shingles may increase costs because landfills charge by weight.

Yes. Swaps (also called dump and returns) are common on construction projects. When your dumpster is full, we’ll haul it away and bring back an empty one so your job can keep moving without delays. Swaps are the same price as the initial delivery because you are just getting a new dumpster.
For most construction projects, contractors use 20, 30, or 40 yard dumpsters. Smaller 10 or 12 yard dumpsters are best for heavy debris like concrete, brick, or dirt, since larger containers can become too heavy to haul safely when filled with dense material.
In most service areas we offer next-day delivery, and in some cities we can even provide same-day service. Call or use our live chat to check current availability in your location.
