Renting a dumpster should be the easiest part of your project. At Trash Daddy, we’ve refined the delivery and pick-up process to be 100% hands-off for the homeowner. In 2026, you don't even need to be home when the truck arrives. Here is exactly how the process works and the technical requirements to avoid common delays and "dry run" fees.

What Happens During Dumpster Rental Delivery?

First, one thing that makes Trash Daddy different from other dumpster rental companies, is we explain the process up front so you know what to expect before delivery. We will send you a detailed email with your invoice with everything you need to know.

When it comes to dumpster rental delivery, Trash Daddy makes it simple. You simple book online or call us, give us a little bit of info, exactly where you want it placed, and one of our expert drivers will show up to drop it off on the day you request. You don't need to wait on the driver, or even be there.

The 60-Foot Rule: Avoiding the "Dry Run" Fee

A roll-off truck is significantly larger than it looks. To safely drop or pick up a dumpster, our drivers typically need:

  • 60 feet of straight-line clearance (to back in and pull out).
  • 23 feet of vertical clearance (to raise the hoist without hitting power lines or tree limbs).
  • A wide swing radius: Ensure no cars are parked on the street directly opposite your driveway.

If the driver arrives and can't safely access the spot, we are often forced to charge a "Dry Run" fee to cover the fuel and labor cost for running the truck. Double-check your clearances the day before, and we will review this with you at the time of your order to try to ensure this doesn't happen.

How Long Can I Keep the Dumpster?

Good news: You’re in control here! At Trash Daddy Dumpsters, we offer flexible rental periods to suit your project. Whether you need a dumpster for a day or a week, we’ll work with you to ensure you have enough time. And if your project is taking longer than expected, just let us know, and we can easily extend your rental.

Here’s a tip to save time and stress: Plan ahead. Estimate how long your project will take and schedule your rental accordingly. This ensures you're not rushing to fill the dumpster on the last day. Make sure you look at the pick up date on your invoice so you know the date.

Ready for Pick-Up? Here’s What to Expect

Once you’re finished with your project (or if you’ve simply filled the dumpster to the brim), it’s time for pick-up. Just give us a call or schedule a pickup online through our live chat. We’ll be there to whisk that full dumpster away—no hassle, no mess. The pick-up process is just as smooth as the delivery.

Note on Timing: Unlike a service with a set appointment, dumpster pick-ups (and deliveries) for roll-offs are integrated into a complex daily route. While you can schedule a pick-up day, we cannot guarantee a specific time. Our trucks operate from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Always ensure the dumpster is clear and accessible by 6:00 AM on your scheduled day. If a car is blocking the bin when the driver arrives, they will have to move to the next stop, resulting in a dry run fee.

Important: Be mindful of the weight limit on your dumpster. Overfilling it, or heavy materials like concrete or dirt, can lead to additional fees. If you’re unsure, give us a call, and we’ll be happy to guide you through what’s allowed. Overloading can also make the dumpster unsafe for transport—let’s avoid that!

How to Make Dumpster Rental Even Easier

Now that you know what to expect, let’s talk about how to make the process even easier. After all, renting a dumpster should simplify your project, not add more stress!

  1. Be clear on what you’re tossing – Some items, like hazardous materials, aren’t allowed. Double-check our list of prohibited items to avoid surprises.
  2. Don’t wait until the last minute – Book your dumpster in advance, especially during busy seasons like summer or post-holiday cleanup periods.
  3. Break down large items – Save space by breaking down large furniture or boxes. You’ll get more bang for your buck by maximizing your dumpster’s capacity.
  4. Choose the right size – Not sure if you need a 10-yard or 20-yard dumpster? Check out our size guide to find the perfect fit for your project.
