Roll off dumpster rentals are an easy, affordable solution to cleaning out old junk you no longer need or want. There are a few dumpster companies, like Trash Daddy, that rent dumpsters in multiple states and cities. Typically, you can rent a dumpster from these companies for an average cost of about $500. Of course the exact price can vary depending on your area, and it also depends on the size you choose.
In this article we will answer the question how much is the smallest dumpster to rent, and we will give you some insight on the other dumpster rental sizes as well.
There are 5 common dumpster rental sizes available in most areas. Those are the 10 yard, the 15 yard, the 20 yard, the 30 yard and the 40 yard dumpster. Take a look at our sizes page for more details on this. Also, we have other articles that go more in depth into the sizes and the differences each have. For a more in depth read on sizes specifically, take a look at a popular article we wrote called "What is the most common size dumpster rental".
For the purposes of this article, we just want you to know about the 5 most common sizes. The 20 yard and 30 yard are the most popular sizes. This is partly because they are larger to handle larger loads, but also because of the fact that they do not cost much more than the smaller sizes.
This is very important for everyone reading this to understand: with dumpster rentals, the price difference to rent a larger size is typically very minimal.
In most areas, the smallest size dumpster costs around $389 to $499. Of course this varies based on your location, and this just an approximate average. When considering renting a smaller dumpster, we want everyone reading this to consider two things: (1) smaller dumpsters fill up MUCH faster than most people think, and can often exceed the weight allowance. This means that smaller dumpsters can often end up costing you more money due to overweight charges. More on this below. (2) You can rent a larger dumpster for a very small increase in price, and it's often the better choice.
One thing you need to seriously consider when renting a smaller dumpster is (obviously) its capacity is much less than larger sizes. Most people don't realize how much junk they have, and when they start throwing it in a dumpster, it can fill up fast. Many dumpster rental companies have flat rate pricing. This means you pay one rate, provided you stay under a certain weight allowance. For smaller dumpsters, that is typically around 1 ton. If you have a smaller size, it's fairly easy to exceed that weight allowance, which means there can be extra costs involved.
If you were to choose a larger size, like a 20 yard or 30 yard, not only do you get much more capacity, but you also get a higher weight allowance as well. This means it's much more unlikely that you will see extra charges for exceeding the weight limit.
Typically you can rent a larger size for only about $40 to $80 more on average than you would pay for a smaller dumpster. Many times the prices difference is $10 or $20. This is primarily because there are so many more of the 20s and 30s in inventory. Most haulers just don't have as many of the smaller sizes, making them a little more expensive.
While it's true that smaller dumpsters do cost less than larger ones, there are two things you should keep in mind if you are considering a dumpster rental. First, smaller dumpsters fill up a lot faster than most people realize. And, second, the price difference to "size up" is typically very minimal. This is because the larger dumpster sizes are much more common. Our goal at Trash Daddy Dumpsters is to make renting dumpsters affordable and easy, and to help keep dumpster rental costs as low as possible for our customers. Keeping these things in mind will help you do that, no matter what company you use!👍
